New to Outsourcing?

How we can help you get started at no charge

We offer free consultation on any product you might wish to source in Asia. This simply entails a brief discussion of the manufacturing strengths of different countries in relation to your product and the options available to you for successful outsourcing.

We will review your technical requirements and quantities required to best place the product. The Asian business model is strongly biased toward personal relationships, finding the right source of supply can often only be found by searching personal networks for an appropriate manufacturer.

Often, in a week or two, we can provide you one or two companies able to fulfill your requirements and provide you with contact details from our extensive network. Our continued referral of western buyers to the Asian market has provided us an excellent network to resolve problems in manufacturing or logistics should the need arise.

What you need to be successful in outsourcing.

The vast diversity of products and services defies any attempts to generalize about the needs or chances of success when moving your supply chain off shore. There are however a few key factors that can reasonably predict your savings and successful transition to offshore producers.

  1. SUFFICIENT VOLUMES – Other than the obvious costs of freight and logistics, there are a myriad of other problems that will impact your savings. Requiring a steady supply will often provide the best quality and delivery reliability.
  2. EXCELLENT PLANNING – These impressive savings don’t come without some careful planning. With the lags in production, shipping, customs and communications you need to plan and monitor inventory levels carefully to avoid shortages. Quality issues will also impact your available inventory so be prepared for much larger inventory stock and the associated costs.
  3. DESIGN STABILITY – The more consistent and fixed your product is, the more consistent and uniform the quality over time. Products that constantly morph are exceedingly difficult to produce in any quantity without on site management and engineering support.

How to get started

It’s the easy part of the whole process. Send us an email with the following information and give us some time to research the potential. Here is what we need to get started:

  • A brief technical description of the product and your current source (in house or vendor).
  • Any sensitive information regarding things such as patents or unique design characteristics. Include a secrecy agreement for your protection if you need to disclose any confidential information.
  • Include any information on regulatory or testing standards required (DOT, UL, FMVSS, DOD, etc.).
  • Your estimated yearly quantities required.
  • Packaging and shipping requirements.

With that information we can do the groundwork and send you two or three contacts in the country you decide to work in. We will also direct you to attend appropriate trade shows in Asia to develop your own contacts further in your particular specialty. As we have employees at most major trade shows throughout the region, we can also assist you with arrangements to attend.

As your project develops, we will continue to answer questions and provide guidance at no charge should you encounter difficulties or just need some practical advice. We try to answer emails within 24 hours workload permitting.

A final note: keep in mind that while this process can be frustrating, confusing and just plain difficult at times, your savings on purchased parts falls right through the income statement and lands right on the bottom line. In a tough competitive world it’s often a matter of survival to make the transition where appropriate.

Approach outsourcing with excellent planning and extra patience, it will pay great dividends for many years to come.
